She works with high-fire stoneware clay to sculpt these delicate little maids, many of whom are adorned with pearls and other lovely gemsEach carving design has specific meanings or stories behind it. Before Western settlers came to New Zealand the Maori had no written language. Therefore, divine tales and tribal history were passed on utilizing numerous forms of fine artistic creations. Examples of these fine arts were complex wood, jade, bone, and shell carvings.

Handicraft has been a huge interest for me and I've always enjoyed creating various forms of arts. I am a self taught polymer clay artist and have been experimenting to achieve the best results. All my beads are made from Premo or Sculpey which are artist grade polymer clay and coupled with image transfer technique, the results are amazingly stunning!

Following this is a very striking engraved flower bell in silver .
Tibetan silver is a kind of silver alloy made by traditional Tibetan technology it looks darker than sterling silver but it has a special rugged style which sterling silver can never show.
These artifacts were then passed on by generation upon generation of tribal elders and became sanctified objects. These treasures "Taonga"tell the history of a tribe and are thought to adopt the spirits of past great leaders and warriors who had worn them. Upon today it is believed that a carving which is worn with respect or given and received with love, takes on part of the spirit of the wearer.
